About Obstetrics in Singapore
Obstetrics encompasses both the antenatal care of pregnant women and the postnatal care of new mothers and their babies. At The O&G Specialist Clinic, our general obstetric services include:
- Routine Antenatal Check-Up for Pregnancies, Delivery and Postnatal Care
- 3D Fetal Ultrasound Scanning
- Antenatal Care of High-Risk Pregnancies
- First Trimester Combined Screening (OSCAR) – NT and Maternal Serum Biochemistry
Antenatal Care
Following the great news of your pregnancy, the next important step is to make sure that your pregnancy is healthy. It starts with an early viability scan done before 10 weeks of pregnancy to confirm the pregnancy and locate it within the uterus. This is followed by another ultrasound scan from 6-8 weeks of gestation to determine the estimated due date and identify any multiple pregnancies.
In your second trimester, an ultrasound scan from 18-21 weeks of gestation will be scheduled to confirm whether the pregnancy is developing normally and examine the structural anatomy of the fetus. This scan will identify any major anomalies and minor variations of the fetus’s anatomy, amongst many other things.
In the third and final trimester, you will undergo a growth scan to ensure your baby’s well-being.
During this antenatal period, your obstetrician will keep track of your pregnancy progress and offer assistance should there be any complications.
Postnatal Care
Once you’ve delivered your baby safely, a postpartum check-up would be scheduled. It includes a thorough review of the mother’s physical and mental well-being, a pelvic examination, wound inspection (if any) and necessary laboratory tests. Your obstetrician will also run through health education components such as breastfeeding and birth control, amongst other things.
At The O&G Specialist Clinic, our highly experienced and qualified team will give you the support you need to push through your pregnancy. If you wish to seek clarifications, you’re welcome to head down to our obstetrics clinic in Singapore or leverage our virtual consultation services.
