Our Obstetrics Services

1. Antenatal Care

Following the great news of your pregnancy, the next important step is to make sure that your pregnancy is healthy. It starts with an early viability scan done before 10 weeks of pregnancy to confirm the pregnancy and locate it within the uterus. This is followed by another ultrasound scan from 6-8 weeks of gestation to determine the estimated due date and identify any multiple pregnancies.

In your second trimester, an ultrasound scan from 18-21 weeks of gestation will be scheduled to confirm whether the pregnancy is developing normally and examine the structural anatomy of the fetus. This scan will identify any major anomalies and minor variations of the fetus’s anatomy, amongst many other things.

In the third and final trimester, you will undergo a growth scan to ensure your baby’s well-being.

During this antenatal period, your obstetrician will keep track of your pregnancy progress and offer assistance should there be any complications.

2. Postnatal Care

Once you’ve delivered your baby safely, a postpartum check-up would be scheduled. It includes a thorough review of the mother’s physical and mental well-being, a pelvic examination, wound inspection (if any) and necessary laboratory tests. Your obstetrician will also run through health education components such as breastfeeding and birth control, amongst other things.

At The O&G Specialist Clinic, our highly experienced and qualified team will give you the support you need to push through your pregnancy. If you wish to seek clarifications, you’re welcome to head down to our obstetrics clinic in Singapore or leverage our virtual consultation services.

3. Intrapartum Care (During Labour and Delivery)

As you approach the exciting moment of labour and delivery, our focus is on providing a supportive and smooth experience. The care you receive during this time is crucial for both your comfort and safety.

Throughout labour, we continuously monitor your baby’s heart rate and your contractions to confirm that everything is progressing as expected. You’ll have access to various pain relief options, from natural techniques to medical interventions, tailored to your preferences.

Your birth plan will help us understand your needs and preferences, and we’ll be ready to adapt as necessary. Our team is prepared to handle any unexpected situations carefully, keeping you and your baby in mind.

Once your baby arrives, we’ll assist with the initial bonding and breastfeeding while continuing to monitor both you and your baby to support a smooth transition.

We aim to provide the care you need and make the labour and delivery experience as reassuring and positive as possible.

Frequently Asked Questions About Obstetrics in Singapore

1. What is the difference between obstetrics and gynaecology?

Obstetrics concerns the diagnosis, care and support during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. The goal is to ensure a safe delivery for both month and baby. On the other hand, gynaecology focuses on the care of the female reproductive system for women of all ages. At The O&G Specialist Clinic in Singapore, our obstetricians and gynaecologists work together to offer comprehensive care to women at every stage of their lives.

Pregnancy is a time of great excitement, but also filled with important decisions that require adequate consideration. Deciding on the right health provider for your pregnancy in Singapore is one such decision. If you have questions or concerns about your pregnancy, an obstetrician may be able to provide helpful advice. Having experienced obstetricians that you can rely on can give you reassurance through the next nine months.

All throughout the gestational period and beyond, an obstetrician will work with you to ensure the health of both you and your baby. In addition to expertise in matters such as prenatal care, antenatal screening, high-risk pregnancies, labour management, and postnatal support in Singapore, obstetricians are also knowledgeable in areas such as contraception and family planning. Overall, your trusted obstetrics clinic can provide reliable support during this life-changing time and aid you in making informed decisions throughout your pregnancy.

During your first visit, your obstetrician in Singapore will review your medical history, discuss your pregnancy and birth plan, and schedule any necessary tests or scans. This is also a chance to ask questions and understand what to expect during pregnancy.

Obstetrics clinics in Singapore offer a range of services, including routine check-ups, ultrasound scans, prenatal screening, and personalised birth plans. Some clinics also provide additional support, such as maternity classes and counselling.

The frequency of visits will depend on your pregnancy and any specific needs you may have. Generally, you’ll have regular check-ups every few weeks, with more frequent visits as your due date approaches. Your obstetrician will guide you on the schedule that’s suitable for you.

If you have any concerns or experience complications, it’s important to contact your obstetrician immediately. They are there to provide guidance, address any issues, and make sure that you and your baby are well cared for.

Your obstetrician will be there to support you through labour and delivery, offering medical care, pain management options, and emotional support. They will work closely with you to provide a safe and positive birth experience.

To prepare for your first appointment, gather your medical history, list any questions or concerns, and consider discussing your birth plan with your obstetrician. Being prepared will help you make the most of your visit.
